Trends and Understanding our times

In 1 Chronicles 12:32 it is written,"Of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do". I have been allowing that scripture to run through my mind for several days. I begin to think who are the men who have the understanding of our times. We have heard a lot from the media, but who has understanding? Certainly not CNN.

Then I begin to reflect upon what my girlfriend, Valerie Williams, said to me during a conversation..."Always look at the trends". Basically to have an understanding of our times, we need to study the scriptures. Matthew 16:3, 'It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening. You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times." This is a shame. Quite frankly, nothing that is happening in this current economy is a surprise. The auto industry has been in trouble since the 80s and now the chickens have come to roost. Growing up in Detroit I remember when the first round of layoffs occurred. It may me realize 20 years ago that the 30 year career was over. As well, interest only mortgages was a signal that the heyday of escalating home prices was not going to last always. So what are we do as ministry leaders? Well, we need to understand our times. We need to study the Word and other materials. Not just the surface things, but deep study. My plan is to find the trends that will affect the non profit/ministry sector. I hope that the news and information reflect will not be scoffed at, but digested and reflected upon.
