Step-by-Step Guide for Creating Photo Mosaics for Your Ministry

Photo mosaics are an interesting way to incorporate hundreds of photos into one interesting creation for your ministry. This is a simple walkthrough for how to create photo mosaics using a simple free program that you can download from the Internet.

Before starting, make sure that you have at least 100 or so photos in a folder on your computer that you want to use to make the tiles, as well as an image that you want to mosaic.

Step One: Download the free program for making mosaics, AndreaMosaic. This program is for Windows only. A Mac-friendly version, MacOSaiX, is available for free download as well, though the directions for making a mosaic are a little different.

Step Two: Open the AndreaMosaic program under Start > AndreaMosaic.

Step Three: You will first have to select the folder that contains all of the photos that you want to use as tiles. To do so, click on the "Select Tiles" button at the bottom of the window. This is will open another window. Click on the "Add Folder" button and navigate through your system to the folder that contains your photos. Once you have found it, hit the "OK" button. You can add photos from several folders, following the same step. After you have all of your folders selected, click on the "Save Archive" button at the top of the window. This will prompt you to save the Image Collection file on your computer. I suggest saving it in the same place that you are going to save the final mosaic. Once you have saved the file, you will get a notice that "Now you are ready to create a mosaic with your archive of __ images. You can go back to the Main Window." After closing the notification window, you can hit the "OK" button at the bottom of the window.

Step Four: Hit the "+" (plus sign) button at the top of the original window, under "Original Images". Select the image that you want the tiles to create and hit "Open".

Step Five: Set all of your options, located on the left side of the window.

Step Six: Hit the "Create Mosaic" button at the bottom of the window. Depending on the number of photos that you are usings, and your settings, this could take a few seconds.
