Comment on Involving your community
I think it is very important to invlove your community with your cause as Russ Reid spoke about. Be upfront and let the public know what you are doing through direct mail and other forms of advertising. Use your radio and TV media together with direct mail. Try to make these things at the same time...so people will hear the branding of your organizations name over and over. When you make the ask, it will already be known what your organization does.
The lecture that Russ Reid
The lecture that Russ Reid gave was very helpful. He reiterated that people will give. Our job is to change the way that people think about something. I know that I need to learn more about how to take advantage of the media . Also, I found it interesting that in addition to planning, that he said we must spend money in order to get money.I also realized why our ads are not as productive as I would like--could be the day, the page, etc. I will ask more questions before I run another ad.

Great lecture, a found a great number of comfromations and insites
Interesting thought
I found it interesting that this lecture was in 1987 and Russ Reid mentioned how the YMCA had forgotten about their Christian principles. It was hard for me this past year as a former YMCA staff member who came from an association with a very strong Christian emphasis that the YMCA as a whole changed its name to the Y...and as much as they wont say it, it was to drop the Christian emphasis. Very sad that it happened but even sadder that in 1987 it was evident that the public was going to win instead of the Y standing up for their values.
