Improving Literacy Skills in the Early Primary Grades (Jennifer Hicks 04-05)

Member Name: Jennifer Hicks

Service Site: Central City Community Outreach

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Project Description:

These documents present a detailed plan for addressing students' literacy deficits in the early primary grades. In the Word document, this plan is broken down by grade level into several main skill sets. The corresponding spreadsheet offers a sample curriculum plan and basic rubric for assessing students' progress in these areas. Though the plan was designed to be implemented using EdMark software, it can be adapted to other systems. It is especially helpful insofar as it is not solely lab-based, but stresses a holistic approach to skill building.
