It's Jesus, but it's also Jesus and potatoes and greens, and Jesus and a good, decent house. Churches should be concerned about justice because our Lord was concerned about it and if we are to model his behavior, we must also be about making sure that people have equal access to opportunity in life. You do not have to be a wealthy church. I do think that you do have to be a church with a vision and a compassion to help people and compassion will find a way. We've chosen to partner with the public realm and private entities, because the greater resources are there. Members of congregations are tax payers and so we have fashioned a way to leverage those dollars back into the church. This congregation has given this community hope, hope that things can be better and will be better, because they've seen it, and they've been a part of it. |
