Summary:

EDTEC, Inc. offers many resources in the areas of entrepreneurship training and management consulting services. Its signature product -- the New Youth Entrepreneur -- includes 12 modules devoted to inculcating entrepreneurial skills in teens. The curriculum, available in both English and Spanish, offers a simple yet comprehensive course in the basics of starting a business. Lessons cover such topics as:

  • how to spot and take advantage of business opportunities;
  • how to market a business;
  • how to secure start-up funds;
  • the basics of bookkeeping, and
  • business ethics.

Now EDTEC also publishes the New Youth Entrepreneur Interactive -- an interactive, animated version of the 12 modules in a colorful, easy-to-use presentation.  This version is ideal in many respects:  students can pace themselves and work from their computers, instructors have access to online assistance and updates, and the cost-effectiveness is greatly enhanced.

EDTEC also provides hands-on consulting and training to organizations operating entrepreneurship programs.

Why FASTEN recommends this resource:

EDTEC’s resources are beneficial for teachers, instructors, and youth workers interested in helping youth develop a business mind and an entrepreneurial spirit. In addition, the firm’s staff includes several minority professionals with rich experience in providing technical assistance to government agencies and private nonprofits that provide social services in low-income communities. Their clients have included the National Center for Neighborhood Enterprise and the National Congress of Community Economic Development Corporations.
