TechMission is a faith-based non-profit organization in Dorchester that helps urban ministry organizations use technology to address injustice and serve at-risk communities.
This letter is to inform you of some opportunities that we would like you to share. Starting this January we are offering full time one-year paid internships serving in After School Programs, Teen Programs, Volunteer Coordinator positions and much more.
Urban Ministry Internships – TechMission Corps provides opportunities in urban ministry in greater Boston and Los Angeles. Individuals serve as one-year full-time interns working with children, youth, technology, or volunteer coordination. Positions begin in January; email thierry@techmission.org if you or someone you know may be interested.
- After School Program Coordinator Positions / Teen Program Coordinator Positions
This AmeriCorps position will assist with a K-8th grade after school program or a teen program based in a church or faith-based organization, serving through mentoring, providing basic technology activities, coordinating volunteers, and providing overall support.
Teen Program coordinator responsibilities include tutoring, mentoring, college prep, assisting with web-based academic enrichment elements, conducting community & parent outreach, assisting with community and school partnerships, planning college visits and workshops as directed, coordinating volunteers, and providing overall support.
- Volunteer Coordinator Positions
This AmeriCorps position will assist with volunteer and work-study student recruitment and coordination for programs based in churches and faith-based organizations. Duties may include recruiting and placing volunteers and work-study students at sites, assisting with monitoring, data tracking, and providing overall support in volunteer management. Members may assist in other program areas as needed.
- Technology Coordinator Positions
This AmeriCorps position will assist with volunteer and work-study student recruitment and coordination for programs based in churches and faith-based organizations. Members may assist in other program areas as needed.
Grant Writer Intern: *
The Grant Writer is a full time position through AmeriCorps VISTA which is responsible for writing grants, managing existing grants and assisting with development work. Duties include the following: Writing grants to corporate foundations, private foundations and government funding sources, Managing existing grants including tracking data, compiling evaluations and writing reports to existing funding sources, Researching grant opportunities and developing lists of potential funding sources, Supervising the development of a donor base of individuals, Networking with other organizations and individuals to develop fund raising opportunities, Assisting in partnering with urban churches and Christian non-profit organizations for grant proposals, Assisting with any other fundraising or development activities as needed, and assisting with any administrative activities as needed. Individuals applying for this position should have very strong writing ability and organizational skills.
Administrative Systems Developer Intern : *
The System Administrator Intern position is a full time position through AmeriCorps VISTA which is responsible for supporting the technology needs of TechMission. Duties may include: Providing system administration support to a small office network of about 15 staff using Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server with Exchange, Maintaining a Web server, online database and other online systems • Installing and setting up software and computers systems for staff and at local computer centers, Maintaining and operating an IP-based phone system and CD/DVD-duplication system, Maintaining a local network, DSL Internet connection, maintaining backup systems, Assisting with any other technology or administrative needs as needed, and Applicants for this position should have very strong technical skills. For system administration focused position, applicants should have strong familiarity with Windows 2003 and strong troubleshooting capabilities.
Web Developer Intern : *
The Web Developer Intern position is a full time position through AmeriCorps*VISTA which is responsible for supporting the technology needs of TechMission. Applicants should view this position as an internship to gain experience in technology in a nonprofit/ministry setting working in one of the largest organizations doing technology and ministry worldwide. Duties may include: Updating and creating new webpages using Dreamweaver and/or Frontpage 2003, Programming scripting for TechMission's website PHP and/or Java/Javascript, Maintaining TechMission's website, online database and other online tools, and assisting with any other technology or administrative needs.
Graphic Designer Intern : *
The Graphic Designer Internship is a full time position through AmeriCorps*VISTA which is responsible for supporting the technology needs of TechMission. Applicants should view this position as an internship to gain experience in technology in a nonprofit/ministry setting working in one of the largest organizations doing technology and ministry worldwide. Duties may include: Providing graphic design for TechMission's website using Photoshop, Flash and other software, Providing graphic design for TechMission print media including flyers, brochures, posters and presentations using Adobe PhotoShop, In Design and other graphic design software, Collaborating with the Web developer to assist in improving TechMission's website design.
Online Publications Editor Intern
The Online Publications Editor Intern is a full time position through AmeriCorps which is responsible for creating and editing the content of TechMission's websites including UrbanMinistry.org, ChristianVoluneering.org, TechMission.org and Safe Families. This position will also help with online community development through our social networking site on UrbanMinistry.org
General Requirements and Qualifications:
- Applicants for this program must be at least 18 years old
- must have a high school school degree or equivalent (GED)
- must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
- specific qualifications vary by position but generally applicants should have good people skills, ability to work with children, and have a desire to learn
- familiarity with Microsoft Word and the Internet desired
- applicants with experience working with Black and Latino communities or non-profit/community/faith-based organizations are strongly encouraged to apply
- accepted applicants must follow all federal and AmeriCorps guidelines with respect to faith during official AmeriCorps hours
