A Christmas Story

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

It was over 20 years ago when Robert was looking forward to Christmas. He was the youngest of seven kids and his mom did not have the extra money to spend on Christmas. Even with seven kids there was always something under the tree. The kids new that Santa would always bring at least one gift. This year Robert, age 7, only had one gift that he wanted. Robert asked for the Speed Racer car the Mach five. Christmas morning Robert was the only child in his family that did not get a gift. He remembers watching for days at the door thinking that there had to be some mistake. After a few days of watching, Robert’s mother called him to the side and explained that Robert was different from his brothers and sisters. Robert was the only one of the seven that had a different father. She went on to explain that his dad was not coming, and while he had promised to get the gift, he never showed. His father did not care enough about him to bring a $5.00 gift. From then on Christmas was a time of disappointment and pain. This year a group of guys from Ohio Christian University donated money to provide Christmas for Robert’s family. While we were delivering the toys, clothes, and food Robert shared his Christmas story. Our hearts were stirred and we decided get the car. When we got home we found it was out of stock all over. A family in Cincinnati had one listed on EBay. When they heard the story they overnigthted the Mach 5 racer so Robert could have his belated Christmas gift 20 years later. When he saw the gift Robert was speechless. Thanks to the men’s Dorm a CBC and the family in Cincinnati who have given Robert and his family a new Christmas story.
