Summary:
This curriculum is a travel-themed career exploration program designed to help youth age 13-16 discover their own desires and abilities and to use that information to help direct them toward a future career. Materials include a Leader’s Guide, a Parents’ Guide, a Student Workbook, and a “Passport,” which students use to record their findings as they work through the program.
The Leader’s Guide contains helpful organizational and administrative information such as promotional ideas and a start-up checklist. In the appendices are handouts, a parent questionnaire that allows parents to evaluate the program, and sample letters and post cards to be used for program promotion, parental updates, etc. The Leader’s Guide offers very detailed step-by-step lesson plans for leading the students through their workbooks. The guidebook provides sample discussion questions and estimates how much time will be needed for students to complete each chapter.
The Student Workbook and Passport are easy to follow and keep information organized so that students do not forget what they have learned.
The Parents’ Guide encourages parents to participate, even if the program is not being administered at home, by asking their youth about what they are learning and offering guidance when appropriate.
