A session with no agenda, designed by, but not exclusive for young leaders. We will show up with some ideas of important CCDA-related conversations that we would like to have, and then break up into groups for discussion. Taking advantage of the collective wisdom we gain as we interact, we will listen for new things we hear the Spirit doing among us.
by Rudy Carrasco Talk Presented Sat, May 15, 2004 Urban Youth Workers Institute Conference 2004.
Come learn the biblical basis for justice ministry among the poor. Interact with topical issues of justice such as redistribution of skills and opportunities as well as economic globalization. Open discussion on these and other topics will ensue.
Talk presented Fri, May 19, 2006 Urban Youth Workers Institute Conference 2006. When teaching youth about economic justice , we must be careful to teach how to invest as well as how to protest. Most urban youth have little to say about investment in things that can truly change a young person’s circumstance. Come reflect on the protest/invest paradigm.
Around the country there is a rising tension
between African-Americans and Latinos.
Many urban youth workers find themselves
in the middle of these challenges or are
anticipating them. This workshop is designed
to explore the issues and identify common
spaces for Latino and Black Christian leaders
to work together. Come prepared to share
from your experience and to learn from other
attendees, as well as the workshop leaders.
In communities blighted by absent fathers, incarceration,
underperforming school districts, drugs, and other social ills, how
can youth ministries come alongside individual youth to equip and
empower them for leadership? Is developing indigenous leaders
even worth the heartache and effort? Examine the myths, methods,
and messages of effective mentorship.
Are you in full-time ministry and sensing the need for a change, but hesitant to take the step? There are many questions associated with making the kind of decision that Rudy and Kafi Carrasco made this year - leaving the ministry positions they held for more than a decade and stepping out on faith into a brave new world with their children. Come and be encouraged by the Carrasco’s adventure.
