Summary:

Successful community development is asset-based, internally focused, and relationship driven. This workbook guides readers through embracing these principles in their own ministries. Part 1 of the workbook is divided into five sections: Discovering the Gifts of Individuals, Expanding Assets, Changing Institutions, and Institutional Change Support Community Change.

Part 2 of the workbook explains the five elements of a healthy functioning community: the skills and talents of local people, the web of local voluntary associations, the strengths of local institutions, the available land and physical property, and the local economy. Throughout, the authors use faith-based organizations already using ABCD strategies successfully in their ministry to illustrate their points and help readers envision these principles at work in their own ministries.
