After the Fact: Charges Against Gates Dropped, but the Underlying Tensions Still Remain
As we reported yesterday, Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. was arrested at his home in Cambridge, MA last week in what some have called a blatant act of racial profiling. Today, the Boston Globe reports, Cambridge police dropped all charges against Gates, and, according to the Globe, Gates is offering to educate the officers involved in the history of racism in exchange for an apology. However, as Gates looks towards reconciliation, Black communities are looking for answers as to why incidents like this still occur in today's society and what things can be done to stop it from happening again. What are your reactions to this case?
